Chiropractic

North Balwyn Chiropractic caters to all patient chiropractic needs. Our practitioners employ a number of chiropractic techniques as part of our services to patients. Patients are advised that we offer both low force adjustments designed to be gentler to the body and manual adjustments where appropriate.

1. Activator

This method uses a small, handheld device called an Activator Adjusting Instrument. It is spring-loaded and designed to deliver light impulse force directly to specific points along the spine joints in quick bursts.

There are several steps to the treatment. Vertebral segments are targeted individually, starting at the lower back region, and progressing toward the head. Our practitioners evaluate the patient for signs and symptoms to identify the joints of the extremities and spine that may be causing pain in the body and focus the use of the activator in those areas. It is considered an alternative to manual adjustments and is ideal for patients who prefer a gentler option.

2. Sacro Occipital Technique (S.O.T.)

Sacro Occipital Technique makes use of the relationship between the sacrum, located at the base of the spine, and the occiput, located at the base of the skull. Founded in 1925 by Dr Bertrand Dejarnette, this technique is favoured as a gentle and comprehensive chiropractic method.

S.O.T. restores a functional relationship between the head, pelvis, and spine, which protect the central nervous system. During treatment, S.O.T. blocks or wedges are positioned under the pelvis. The technique relies on the patient's body weight combined with gentle pressure from the practitioner to correct misalignment and restore proper central nervous system functioning. S.O.T. provides safe and consistent results while emphasising patient comfort.

3.  Applied Kinesiology

Applied Kinesiology is a therapeutic tool that tests the strength and weakness of specific muscles to identify imbalances that need correction. Patients who undergo this technique may experience restoration of normal nerve function, postural balance, and improved range of motion.

4. Diversified Manual Adjusting

High-velocity, low-amplitude thrusts quickly and gently restore alignment and relieve excess tension during this treatment option. Our practitioners use different adjustment positions to address subluxations and strategically realign problem areas. This is the most practised form of chiropractic care due to its reliability and effectiveness.

FAQ's

Frequently Asked Questions
    What Is Chiropractic?

Chiropractors are musculoskeletal clinicians, we are not only trained to treat musculoskeletal pain in patients, but we are also trained to facilitate health promotion and lifestyle advice, rehabilitation and patient education.

Our patients usually seek chiropractic care for back pain, neck pain and headaches, as well as for general health and wellbeing.

    Is It Safe?

Chiropractic care is very low risk, however all forms of chiropractic treatment can have the potential for adverse reactions in some people. After conducting a very intensive assessment and range of individualised neurological, musculoskeletal and orthopaedic tests, we use different types of low force and manual adjustments where appropriate, including massage and muscle release techniques to suit each patient’s care needs.

    Does It Hurt?

Adjustments are usually very calming and relaxing, however minor discomfort after an adjustment can occur, but this is rare.

At NBC, our chiropractors are trained to use different techniques to apply an adjustment.

        • Low force Activator Methods technique - A hand-held instrument (Activator) to adjust the spine.
        • Sacro-occipital Technique (S.O.T.) - utilizes wedges/ blocks to help realign the body.
        • Manual Diversified Technique - where the practitioner uses their hands to conduct the adjustment. You may hear a popping sound from the spinal joints, as musculosketal movement is improved.

No matter what technique our chiropractors choose, we use skill, not force or strength, to care for our patients with the highest degree of safety and effectiveness.

Can I See a Chiropractor If I'm Pregnant?

Yes! All of our chiropractors are trained to assess and care for women who have musculoskeletal back pain in pregnancy. We use gentle, low force techniques which can help to alleviate pain related to pregnancy. If you are pregnant and experiencing musculoskeletal pain, talk to one of our practitioners about how we can help.
